The Importance of Digital Audio

As a reporter, I have to record a lot of interviews with people and then transcribe them into my articles.  One of the things that is very important for me to have while completing this process is my Olympus dictation equipment.  In the past, reporters would have to use analog tape recorders in order to record all of their interviews, and it would often lead to having low quality audio, which made it very difficult to be able to transcribe the interviews in an accurate manner.  Thankfully, the digital revolution happened, and now we have these digital audio recorders that allow us to get very high quality audio of every single word that the person being interviewed says, which means that it makes it a whole lot easier when it comes time to sit down and write the articles.  In the past, a little bit of damage to a tape could cause a whole lot of problems in the writing process, and at that point, there was not much that could be done.

It is very important for reporters to quote their sources correctly, and the fact that we can now get very high quality audio in order to capture our interviews makes it a whole lot easier to make sure that we are quoting our sources correctly.  The last thing you ever want to do as a reporter is to misquote one of your sources, and that is why it is so important to get good audio quality so that it is a whole lot easier to type out the text while you listen to the interview.

If you are a reporter, you know just how important it is to get good digital audio of all of your interviews to make sure they are accurate.
